12/31 - 4 Gray Whales and more ... The rain waited until we were back at the dock, but the rain cloud formations over the Santa Barbara Channel were spectacular. The ocean surface was a tiny bit choppy leaving Santa Barbara Harbor but soon glassed-off completely. Visibilities were great both topside and underwater. You could see all 4 islands in the chain, and the dolphins were clear quite a ways down there. Sightings for the day included 4 gray whales (more in the distance), 400 California sea lions, 2 Mola mola (ocean sunfish) and 300 long-beaked common dolphins.
We crossed the Channel and found our first 2 gray whales about 2 mil...

11/3 - Last Day of Lotusland Public Tours for 2016 is November 12 ... Lotusland is glorious in the light of the fall season. Tour the garden with an expert at 10 AM and 1:30 PM, Wednesday thru Saturday. Please call 805.969.9990 for reservations. Lotusland is required to close for 3 months during the winter due to the County of Santa Barbara's Conditional Use Permit. Lotusland reopens February 2017.

9/20 - Free Admission to Santa Barbara Botanic Garden ... On Saturday, September 24th The Santa Barbara Botanic Garden will open its doors, free of charge, to visitors with a MUSEUM DAY LIVE pass. This annual event allows visitors to choose from over 1400 museums and cultural institutions in a national celebration of culture and learning. Visitors must download a free pass at the Museum Day Live website, www.Smithsonian.com/museumday. The pass is good for free admission for two at participating venues for one day only. One pass is permitted per household, per email address.
